The following research stories originate from members of the Wetaskiwin Branch of the Alberta Genealogical Society. The stories have been gleaned from the Branch's own newsletter: Roots & Branches. Stories are printed with permission, and some editing has been done whenever follow-ups appeared in future newsletters. The member doing most of the research and writing the articles is Alice Hoyle.

Anton and Christine JENSEN

Mr. Jacobsen from Denmark requested information about his Jensen relatives: Anton and Christine. They were found in the Wetaskiwin cemetery database. We took digital photos of the graves and sent this to Mr. Jacobsen. We then researched ... Read more ›

Frederick & Elizabeth KNACK

A request was forwarded to us by the Zion Lutheran Church secretary for research on Frederick and Elizabeth Knack. The CD of the City of Wetaskiwin cemeteries in our library gave dates of burial, and estimated birth dates. The church secretary had already contacted the City Archives and found an obituary for Frederick. Using a provincial university website for online local newspapers, we found an entry for Frederick’s farm auction sale... Read more ›

Lawrence Wallace and Matilde (Baker) STRAND

Mr. Mitchell from USA contacted us, looking for information about Matilde Baker Strand and Lawrence Wallace Strand. We found their burial information in the Wetaskiwin Cemetery Database. We took digital photos, found an obituary for Lawrence but nothing for Matilda. All information was then forwarded to Mr. Mitchell.... Read more ›

Katherine Wilkins née Hollingsworth

In January 2017, we received an email through our website request form from Jan Krijff of Hemmstede, Netherlands for a photo of a "Kathleen" Wilkins married to Ernest D.H. Wilkins. It was discovered that Mr. Ernest D.H. Wilkins was a lawyer in Wetaskiwin and his wife was Katherine Hollingsworth. The only "Kathleen" Wilkins found was the daughter of Ernest and Katherine, a daughter who died at age 16 while living in Wetaskiwin. Read the rest of the story to find out how this conundrum was resolved. Read more ›

John Henry Leslie TURNER

On September 15th, 2015, an email was received by the Wetaskiwin Branch, AGS, asking for assistance in obtaining further information about the Great Uncle of Ruth Close – a man named John Henry Leslie Turner. The research uncovered a gold mine of resources: cemetery information, homestead, other relatives, viewing local history books, and so much more.... Read more ›
